F*** STAIRS
Crip Riot, 2023
The F*** Stairs campaign started at the University of Washington in Seattle in 2018 when disabled students Lindsey Muszkiewicz and Ashley Cowan D’Ambrosio, laid out a pledge for able-bodied students. The pledge asked that they only use accessible pathways in solidarity with wheelchair users and other people with mobility impairments. This challenge was meant to demonstrate just how inaccessible and unwelcoming physical spaces continue to be, even 30 years after the signing of the ADA.
In the spring of 2023, I collaborated with Joyce Lin to create a set of posters and an accompanying social media campaign to advertise this campaign. As the campaign grows each year, we strive to continually create new promotional materials and highlight different aspects of the disabled experience. Further, each of these posters is intended to provide an unfamiliar audience with educational information about the campaign, disability history, and disability activism while maintaining a crip punk aesthetic that defines Crip Riot.
